Display ICs from Solomon Systech Limited to Match Motorola’s i.250 GSM/GPRS Platform Solution
Highly Integrated Mighty Chips that Support the i.250 Baseband Processor’s DMAC Protocol
Hong Kong, China – Feb 11, 2002 – Solomon Systech Limited (SSL) today announced series of display ICs to accompany with Motorola’s 2.5G Innovative ConvergenceTM (i.250) platform. The i.250 platform is a comprehensive silicon-to-software solution for building smart 2.5G Global System for Mobile Communication/General Packet Radio Service (GSM/GPRS) wireless handsets. As the companion to the i.250 platform, Solomon Systech’s display ICs are highly integrated mighty chips that are designed to support the i.250 baseband processor’s DMAC protocol and open the display window for all mobile communication devices.
Display ICs from SSL includes families of Monochrome, Gray Scale and Color STN controller driver ICs, such as SSD1828 and the SSD18XX / SSD17XX series. These are all cost-effective single chip display solutions for mobile communication products in 2G/2.5G and 3G applications, where high performance, long battery life, compact size and ease of use are required. In particular, they reduce system cost and vastly speed time to market with minimal external components and reduced instruction for display graphic control:
– Build-in command set to support the i.250 baseband processor’s DMAC protocol.
– Configurable display memory map for streamline the data read/write access of i.250 platform’s DMAC protocol.
– Included hardware graphic functions, such as Window Scrolling, to simplify window (pop-up/pull down menu) control
Bringing in the advanced technologies from SSL are the latest OLED/PLED driver family SSD1301 / SSD1328, MLA PDA driver
chipsets SSD17XX / SSD187X / SSD188X and the Graphic Controllers SSD190X. They upgrade the handsets with impressive display of high contrast, excellent image quality and fancy graphic animation. Taking the advantage from our built-in graphic engines IC platform, handsets manufacturers now have the flexibility to design from low-tier to high-tier feature sets for today and future 3G/smart phone applications, diversify their product lines and get to market quickly.
The scalable, highly integrated i.250 platform combines an advanced chipset with an unparalleled development environment, field-proven GPRS software protocol, type certification support, and best-in-class system cost to support a complete range of voice-centric, voice/data, and data-centric products. A major advancement in the industry’s ongoing effort to enable anytime, anywhere communication for consumers, the i.250 platform provides a solid architectural foundation to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and original design manufacturers (ODMs).
The turnkey i.250 platform is designed to reduce system cost while speeding time to market for handset manufacturers,” said Kenny Cheung, General Manager of Motorola’s Wireless and Broadband Systems Group, Asia Pacific. “Its streamlined, compact design features the lowest component part-count in the industry. Manufacturers can easily add personality and packaging to their handset products, focusing on applications, branding, features and style while enjoying instant access to cutting-edge technology. The bundled platform gives them unprecedented flexibility for getting to market quickly, easily, and cost-effectively. In addition, our platform solutions can scale from voice-only wireless clients to rich multimedia platforms, easing the migration to 3G solutions and reducing overall costs.”
We are excited to be working with Motorola to bring leading-edge IC products to the market,” said Humphrey Leung, President and Executive Director of Solomon Systech Limited. “With the companion to Motorola’s i.250 platform, wireless handset manufacturers will be able to enhance its competition in the market with the total system solution, from baseband processors, software engine to graphic display module. Our highly integrated display driver controller ICs with on-chip capacitor technology and other on-chip features like DC-DC converter, bias divider, oscillator, display data RAM, OTP…etc, is a perfect match to the i.250 platform in providing a minimal component count in applications.”
